Of very early vocation and magnificently gifted for art, imaginative, Eduardo Naranjo (Monesterio -Badajoz-, 1944) deserves to be considered our foremost representative of contemporary dreamlike magical realism, never devoid of tremendous verisimilitude, beauty, and poetry. It is no coincidence that, in 1979, following his acclaimed exhibition at Biosca, those connected with the world of our culture chose him as "Mejor Artista Plástico del año en B y N", and that his 1993 retrospective at the Centro Cultural de la Villa Madrileña was visited by nearly two hundred and fifty thousand people of various nationalities.

In 1981, through his participation in the book Constitución Española, 1978, he resumed his work as a printmaker, which he has alternated with painting ever since. Among the numerous prints he subsequently produced, particular mention should be made of the seven prints from El Génesis (1983-85) and the thirteen based on F. G. Lorca's book Poeta en Nueva York, which have become known throughout much of the world.

Always multifaceted, he also collaborated in the theater: in Lorca's La casa de Bernarda Alba, together with José Carlos Plaza, at El Español, and in Hazme de la noche un cuento, by the Extremaduran Jorge Márquez, under the insightful direction of Manuel Collado, at the Teatro Bellas Artes in our capital.

An artist who stands apart from fashions and has held very few solo exhibitions –although he has, by contrast, participated in countless group exhibitions alongside other great contemporary artists–, he is nevertheless one of the most prestigious and highly valued, having established his authority in each of his exhibitions held to date. From the first realist exhibitions at Loring (Madrid, 1971 and 1972); the aforementioned one at Biosca (1979); the 1980 retrospective at Galería Punto (Valencia), subsequently held in Cáceres and Badajoz; the exhibition at the Centro Cultural de La Villa in Madrid in 1993 (also taken to Badajoz and Cáceres); to more recent ones at Leandro Navarro (Madrid, 1999), and those that traveled through the various cities of Galicia in 2000, and in 2002, Córdoba (Caja Sur Halls), Seville (Church of San Hermenegildo), and Badajoz (Museum of Fine Arts). Much has been written about Naranjo and his work, both in prose and verse. There is already an extensive bibliography and a wide range of lectures devoted to it; in both cases, in not a few languages. Even, as a curiosity, it should be mentioned that in years past books devoted to our artist were published in China and Taiwan, which is not surprising, but rather symptomatic of the emotional power that emanates from everything that springs from his soul and hands: his greatest virtue.
