In early 1957, he was introduced to Eduardo Acosta, who would become his first teacher. In October of that year, he enrolled in the Escuelas de Artes y Oficios, where he completed four years with an outstanding average, winning the center’s first prize in competitive examinations. The Monesterio town council awarded him a grant of 5,000 pesetas. The following year, at the main campus, he won the “El Antiguo” drawing prize. He studied at the Artes y Oficios School until 1960, when he entered the Santa Isabel de Hungría School of Fine Arts. This followed his winning major prizes in youth competitions in Seville and Badajoz, and the awarding of the Bartolomé Esteban Murillo scholarship by the Seville Provincial Council in 1959 at the Spring Exhibition for his work “Bodegón con paloma disecada.” The Badajoz Provincial Council also awarded him a scholarship to study Fine Arts, specializing in painting.
